We develop and bring to market distinct solutions for the remediation and durability enhancement of concrete infrastructure, working with clients to understand their issues and approaching them with solutions distinct from the existing market.
Our leading product is Penkal, a passive realkalization solution which restores the internal pH of concrete at risk of or facing carbonation-induced corrosion, while inhibiting further carbonation of the structure. All of this is achieved using a simple, low cost coating applied to the surface of the structure far simpler and more affordable than competing traditional methods.
Our vertical integration from the research, development, testing, to commercial application of products offers us strengths in developing formulations and solutions for the niches which clients face, with a strong consideration towards making effective solutions low cost and easy to use
Penkal
Penkal is one of the first commercially available passive realkalization solutions which offers consistent success in addressing carbonation-induced corrosion in field applications, and the only one in the Australian market that has been found to be effective in field trials by a state agency.
Supplied and applied as a simple topical coating to a concrete surface by Alkyon, Penkal migrates to the depth of the carbonation front and restores the concretes’ alkalinity to a level at which carbonation-induced corrosion of reinforcement is inhibited. Our coatings unique properties to allow it to effectively migrate into concrete structures which, when combined with our application methodology, results in greater effectiveness in realkalization compared to various other commercial passive realkalization products.
Our company undertakes both the manufacture and application of our remedial coating as part of the Penkal Realkalization Works, with products unavailable through third parties or resale.
